I have officially survived 6 months of parenting and I got the low down on the things you definitely need on your baby registry.
So when I was pregnant, I read a lot of baby must-haves articles but most had way too many unnecessary things, specially for my small NYC apartment. So now that I am officially a mom, I’ve made a list of simple things I actually use everyday (besides milk/diapers) that I cant live without…
Boppy Pillow
Originally I got the twin boppy pillow to be able to feed my twins at the same time but it quickly it turned into their everything. I used it for feeding, tummy time and chillin (cause you know babies do that). The pillow was great for avoiding a flat head and being carried a lot. The elevation it provided was also accommodating for my colicky twin. I would put them on my couch, bed, and even on my bathroom mat while I took showers. You can purchase the twin boppy pillow online and the singleton ones are available at most baby store. They are pricey for being a pillow so feel free to check out used ones. I purchased mine from a mom on the Offer Up for half of the original price and it was intact. It’s a deft must for all mamas.
Mama Tip: Check out selling apps, mom Facebook groups and websites like eBay for used almost new baby items. You’ll be surprise what you can find in great condition and remember to always use a secure method of payment.
Formula dispenser
Once I stopped breastfeeding, I purchased this formula dispenser from Toys R Us. It’s the best for on-the-go or desperate (baby-going-crazy) situations. All you have to do is per-measure the formula in each slot so that when you are out and about there’s no mess making the bottle. Its cheap enough that I recommend purchasing two for those long shopping days.
Backpack style diaper bag
Diaper purses are cute but backpacks are the real deal. Its just so convenient to throw on your back and go. You can still carry your baby in a front carrier and it keeps your back aligned. It’s also great for airport travel.
Gate check bag for car seat
This item is great for airline travel. Once you arrive to your flight, you will have to check your car seat or stroller seat at the gate and this bag is great for keeping it clean from any airplane grease or other unknown stains. I purchased mine on Amazon and it has held up wonderfully.
Bibs
All I’m saying issss you can’t ever have too many bibs. I literally have more the 50 and besides the fact that I have two babies, the drooling stage is no joke! Get your self plenty of bibs.
Hospital pacifiers
If you can get yourself an extra pacifier before you leave the hospital take it! You’ll thank me later.
Cloth diapers
This is not for everyone but if you are up for the task, try it. I did cloth diapering for the first 4 months of my twin’s life and I don’t regret it at all. I saved so much money during these months. At this stage babies wake up every 2-3 hrs to feed and change and that’s a lot of diapers. Although Cloth diapers are expensive upfront, its worth it in the long run. I never had to worry about running out because you simply rinse the poop and throw it in the washer/dryer. My favorite are fitted diapers from GMD and Thirsties diaper covers to go on top. The best thing about fitted diapers is that you don’t have to be an expert at folding because they look just like the average disposable diaper.
Mommy Bliss Gripe Water
This is the best! It’ll get rid of your baby’s gas in an instant and best of all is that its natural. This was very helpful for my colicky child and I still use it when needed. Available at your local pharmacy
Frida nose sucker
My babies have gotten a cold twice already and this sucker has made it so easy for me to clear out their mucus. Spray some nasal spray and suck it all out! Don’t worry, it has a filter so you wont ingest any “delicious” boogers. Its super easy to clean and fits anywhere.
Swing
Once my babies learned how to move and turn they no longer liked the boppy pillow so the swing was a life saver. This allowed me to be hands free and do stuff around the house while they played in the swing. Now that they are about to crawl, I currently use the swings to feed them (it locks movement). Yes! Talk about dual purpose…less obstacles more apartment space. Everyone wins!
Drying Rack
This drying rack holds so many bottles and baby gadgets without taking up too much counter space. Its a cheap and simple way to dry your bottles without digging through the rest of your dishes. The one I use is Munchkin’s high capacity drying rack.
Comotomo baby bottles
So I recently switched to the Comotomo bottles and I wish I would of done it sooner. They are light weight and so easy to clean with a plain ol’ kitchen sponge. The bottle is rubber and the babies find it so easy to hold on their own. I purchased mine on Amazon.
Puree storage tray
Hello baby food! So I recently started feeding my babies food and this has made the process so easy. You cook a huge batch once and place it in these pods to freeze. Each pod is about 1 tablespoon. Once it is frozen, pop it out, and place the pods in a freezer bag. It will saves so much storage space and when u are ready to feed them you just take out as many pods as you want and let it thaw out in the fridge/counter. Less time spent in the kitchen is always a bonus for me.
I hope you enjoy these mama must haves and cant wait to share more tips with y’all as the twins get older. Stay tune and don’t forget to leave your feedback 👍👎. 😊
