Today I’m sharing with you all my belly cream recipe that moisturized and nourished my skin throughout my twin pregnancy. Not only did I save money making it myself, I also knew exactly what was in it avoiding any toxic elements that can be found in many store brand creams.
As soon as I got pregnant, I accepted the fact that I was skinny, going to have a twin belly and stretch marks. My mom had them therefore I was bound to get them (so they say). Nevertheless, I wanted to try to avoid the damage so I made the perfect buttery concoction with only three ingredients.
Vitamin E drops: rejuvenates & restores skin, reduce itchiness and moisturizes.
Unrefined Coco butter: lightens dark spots and imperfections, acts as an anti-aging agent, restores shine, and it’s highly moisturizing and nourishing.
Organic Coconut oil: I use coconut oil for everything so it was going to go in my mix regardless buttt if you need some convincing it improves skin health and it’s a natural moisturizer..
FYI: I did not add any scented oils so it will smell like pure coco butter. You can add mint or any scented oil you’d like for a different smell.
Mama tip:
- I started putting cream the first day I found out I was pregnant and I did it twice a day, morning & nights.
- Every time I felt itchy, I massage my belly with my cream. On those days I also took hot baths.
- I did not overeat. Rapid weight gain can stretch your skin too fast, hence stretch marks. I maintained my normal diet and just let the prenatal pills do the magic.
Enough chit chat, Here’s how I made it… (Prep time: 15 mins)
You need:
Organic coconut oil
An empty container
Glass measuring cup
Electric hand mixer
I placed a glass measuring cup in a pan full of boiling water. I melted 1.5 cup of coco butter, 1 cup of coconut oil , and added 12 drops of vitamin E. Just so you know, I don’t think there’s a way to ruin this recipe. I made refills 3x and each time was a different measurement.
Once it was all melted, mix it all together with a spoon and pour it in a glass bowl. Immediately after place it it to the freezer for 5 mins (or more). The idea is to get the oil mix to get semi hard. You don’t want it to be brick solid or too soft so check the consistency with your finger every 5 mins.
If you forget about it in the fridge, you can always stick it in the oven to melt the mix to liquid state and try again, hence “glass” bowl.
Once you take it out of the fridge, get your mixer and high speed. This will create a creamy textures, if its too soft or hard just repeat the melting/freezing steps and blend again. Pour your creamy mix in a container and use daily. Thass it!
At 35 weeks, the word “huge” was an understatement yet I had no stretch marks. Fast forward to a couple of months after birth and surprisingly still have no stretch mark just a bit of excess skin. It could have been the cream, luck, or both but I’m happy I tried and you should to. The best of all is that you can use the cream for daily moisturizing needs after you give birth 😉
On another note, don’t stress it if it doesn’t work out for you. The most important thing is that you brought life into this world and there’s no bigger blessing than that. Love yourself and don’t be scared to flaunt your post-partum body.
I’d love to know what has or hasn’t worked for you. Leave your feedback below.
