Here’s a quick, easy, and super affordable way to get this half moon wall decor for less. The best part of it all was recycling an old cardboard box to make this beauty.
So I’ve been looking for wall decor for my apartment but every time I’ve seen something I liked, it’s ridiculously expensive. This item on WayFair was not an exemption to the list of things I wanted but couldn’t afford so I took a close look at it and decided to recreate it for less than $20.
You Need:
- A large cardboard
- Glue gun/glue
- acrylic yarn or macrame rope
- wood style contact paper
- scissors
- the circular object for tracing
- command strips
- blow dryer (optional)
~ This can also be made using real wood instead of cardboard. ~
Step 1: Trace a circle on the cardboard. I used a bike tire.
Step 2: cut out the circle and split it half
I personally cut a little more than half, about 5 inches more.
Step 3: Roll out the contact paper and lay the cardboard cutout on top of the ugly side and start freely cutting the contact paper the shape of the half-moon. Make sure it’s about 2-4 larger than the cardboard so that you can fold it over the edge.
Step 4: Grab the yarn and the cutout piece that was set aside. Use the cutout piece to measure how short to cut the yarn.
Step 5. Cut the yard the same exact left as the measured strand. It’s going to take ALOT of strands. Enough to go from one end to the next twice.
Step 6: Grab the glue gun and start gluing the tip of each strand to the edge of the ugly side of the wrapped half moon.
Step 7: Do a second layer of yard right above the first one across the cardboard
Step 8: Get a blow dryer and seal the deal on that contact paper.
Step 9: Grab some command strips and place it on the back of the half moon
Step 10: hang it up and brag about your $200 worth art piece.
